Dynamically illuminated columns
Projectlocation: Walking strip P15 Schiphol
For the free space between the Hilton hotel and The Base (multi-company building) IPV Delft developed a light plan for The Square. Recently Armada Janse realised the most prominent element of The Square: five dynamic light columns under the viaduct of the Ceintuurbaan South.
The dark ceiling and the concrete columns of the viaduct in between were a barrier in this space, throughout daytime as well as by night.
The furnishing of the concrete columns under the viaduct with led illumination was part of the overall light plan.
Armada Janse has translated this into a technical feasible product, meeting all the client’s wishes. For example Armada Janse opted for clamp constructions, because drilling was not permitted.
The concrete columns consists were furnished with aluminium panels which leds are attached, surrounded by an opal panel that functions as a diffuser and ensures an equal, fluently light image.
With this light image several light scenes can be formed, which provide a special space perception. Because of the created light panorama the columns seem to disappear. They create an attractive and surprisingly special atmosphere.
The columns are at the top and bottom provided with stainless steel protective edges to protect them from usage damage. During the design specific attention was given to the maintenance aspect.
